THOUGHTS ON THE ROAD THOUGHTS ON THE ROAD

I went to the gynecologist the other day. While
filling out the regular yearly form, I noticed (as
I always do) the questions I’ve never seen on any
other forms anywhere else. “Have you ever been
raped, abused or yelled at?” I always check the
YES box. Please don’t get me wrong. I write this
with heartfelt compassion and sincere respect for
all of the courageous men and women who have
also met with awful circumstances.

Next, the question, “Do you feel safe?” Good Question.
Leave it to Dr. V.–though her hands are usually full,
she always explores these questions.

Naturally it got me thinking … about safety. After
listing my initial safety concerns (in my head);
you know –health, world peace, meeting my bills,
I decided to look on the safer side.

Next, I listed (in my head, of course) the things
that I believe instill safety in us.

I thought about GET’s “Lt. Governor Elizabeth
Roberts” feature story. When I read the interview, it
was obvious Roberts engaged candidly with reporter
Mary Ann Rossoni, as well as Cassandra Biracco,
the photographer. She spoke of the inspiration the
Kennedy’s and Dr. King brought to this country.
She discussed the importance of advancements
in medicine and health care and support of small
businesses. These answers make me feel safer.

By the time I reached the beach and waded through
the flats filled with every sea color and creature,
I was mesmerized. I forgot all about safety. Ha.

Read On … please—
